Inter-Communal Children’s Choir

Call for Applications

(All children ages 7 to 11 years are welcome to register)

Start date: 3rd October 2018 – End date: July 2019

The Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR), the Home for Cooperation (H4C), Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Trade Union (KTOS) and Proodeftiki Primary and Pre-Primary Teachers’ Movement announce the continuation of the Inter-communal Children’s Choir (ICC) for school year 2018-2019 believing in the need for peace initiatives by organizations, groups and citizens for the promotion of a Culture of Peace.

The idea of the ICC is based both on the powerful and positive influence of similar initiatives in Cyprus and abroad, and on the initiative’s firm belief that we need to invest time and energy in engaging children in activities that enhance the construction of a Culture of Peace. In addition, we believe that children of various communities in Cyprus singing together songs of love, peace and friendship in several languages constitute a powerful message of peaceful coexistence.

Rehearsals will relaunch in October 2018 with the participation of old and new young participants from all communities residing in Cyprus. The Choir will have rehearsals once a week from October 2018 to July 2019. The conductors – who have extensive experience both in teaching music and experiential learning – will assist children, through various games and activities, in getting to know each other and developing trust, both among themselves and towards the conductors.

The rehearsals will be taking place at the Home of Cooperation, an easily accessible venue with a friendly atmosphere every Wednesday between 5:15 and 6:30 p.m. The first day of the rehearsals will be the 3rd of October 2018.

The conductors of the Choir are Lena Melanidou and Imge Arabi.

Please have in mind that the Choir’s operations will close with an event at the Home for Cooperation at the end of the school year.
