Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival Goes Biennial!
The Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival was created by the Home for Cooperation team in 2014, with the aim of offering a platform for emerging artists to showcase groundbreaking work while creating opportunities for insightful arts and culture lovers in the city to gather.
Ten years later, as an indispensable part of the Home for Cooperation’s peacebuilding agenda, the Festival continues to cultivate spaces for co-creation and foster much-needed dialogue and artistic exchange. It has ultimately become a collective space dedicated to building sustainable networks of and for collaboration.
Over the course of its history, the Festival has grown in reach and spirit due to the heartfelt contributions of incredible artists and community members that have surrounded it. In its 10th edition in 2023, the Festival celebrated all those who have in their own way helped build what we have come to call Buffer Fringe. The 2023 edition celebrated an impressive achievement of reaching the 10-year milestone. The theme of the year, Turning Point, not only marked this milestone, but also the team’s critical reflection in the Festival’s role and commitment moving forward.
This has led the Festival itself arrive at a new and exciting turning point: to go biennial!
What does this mean?
The Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival will from now on be taking place every two years, with various activities and events organized in between Festival editions. This means that the next Festival edition will take place in 2025.
Why?
Having recently celebrated the 10th edition of the Festival, we have deeply reflected the ways in which we can continue contributing to the local art scene, meaningfully supporting artists and art practitioners, fostering sustainable collaborations, while working towards positive conflict transformation led by civil society.
The longer time between each festival edition will allow our focus to be directed towards new and exciting ways to achieve deeper and long-term engagement with local artists between the festival editions, that can complement the showcasing of artworks. Additionally, we will continue our efforts in (re)connecting with international festivals and the artistic community with a shared vision towards an enhanced cross-cultural connection and collaboration.
What to expect?
First, an amazing festival edition every two years!
Various activities and events organized in between the editions through out the year, including workshops, performances, seminars etc.
